Joel Thomas Grosso, 42, was recently charged with multiple counts of drug possession as well as many other drug and firearm charges, according to a news release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities responded to the 12000 block of Little Antietam Road around 7:30 p.m. Sunday for a reported crash.
While on their way there, deputies were informed that the driver had tried to leave, and was being restrained by residents who were nearby at the time of the crash, according to the release and Sgt. Carly Hose, a department spokeswoman.
Grosso had been driving his 2006 Buick Lucerne, as a deer jumped in front of the car, surprising him and causing him to swerve and hit a nearby utility pole, the release states. He claimed he was trying to leave the scene as he was afraid of the downed power lines he had hit.
Upon further investigation, deputies found out Grosso had two backpacks containing drugs, digital scales, and a handgun. They also found drugs on him. After searching him and his property, deputies found about 26 grams of crack cocaine, 63 capsules of fentanyl, three suboxone films, and five Vyvanse capsules.
Grosso was charged with 5 counts of (not marijuana) drug possession, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, and various other drug and firearm charges.
Grosso is being held without bond at the Washington County Detention Center. Grosso was also arrested on an outstanding warrant, according to the release.
